Council Knights Raised money for Special Olympics Our St. Joseph's Knights were at Sams Club on SR 70 Friday to collect donations for the Manatee County Special Olympics program. Tootsie Rolls were handed out to those donors with a sweet tooth. A worthy sum was collected, please ask our FS at the next meeting how much was raised. Thanks to all the Knights who helped collect the donations.
March Fundraising! St. Joseph's Council raised money for charitable work with the Family Breakfast and with the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Program. These last two weekends were busy for our Program Director and our fellow Knights who picked up the sword and worked the events! Thank you for your support and participation of the Council and Knights of Columbus Charities.
Shining Armor Award Its been a long time since our council has had a Knight achieve this distinguished award. Brother Mike Cotter was awarded the Shining Armor Award at our recent March council meeting. Knight of the month was awarded to Brother Phil Indovina, and Family of the Month was awarded to Brother Tom and his Wife Dorothy Hanket. Please congratulate them, and thank them for all the work and time they donate to the council and its activities. Youth Program Awards Are Presented!
The Council youth director and many of our Council knights along with, Knights from Padre louis Desoto Assemby, and officers from the State of Florida have been presenting awards for many programs. Pictured above is the son of a St. Joseph Brother Knight recieveing third place award for the state spelling bee from the State deputy and the state Program Director. Awards were presented locally at the St. Josephs childrens mass last Wednsday. After the mass, awards were presented for winners of the Essay, Free throw, and Spelling Bee competetions. Run For Life Spaghetti Dinner Monday 16th February With the help of some dedicated council knights, our program director conducted a spaghetti dinner Monday night at the parish center. Proceeds in support of Knights of Columbus Pro Life Program. Many Knights from surrounding Councils attended along with several state officers. A special thanks to our close brother council Saints Peter and Paul Parish here in Bradenton. The list of additional councils attending was long, we thank all of them for showing their support. Family Breakfast Sunday 15th February The council put on another successful family breakfast this past Sunday, and wish to thank all those Knights who showed up to help cook, clean, greet, and run 50/50. There were a scant few arriving after the 7:30 mass, but we had a great response from the 9:00 mass parishioners! It was a exciting to see the turnout of Parishioners. The family breakfast is one of the main fundraisers for our council, so please continue to help us with volunteering and bringing the family to enjoy the pancakes, eggs and sausage.
Deputy Grand Knight Assumes Role as Grand Knight District 49 Deputy Tom Anzelone installed a new Grand Knight after the resignation of Terry Riley due to health issues, please pray for Brother Terry. Deputy Grand Knight Jim Vanderhorst will be Council Grand Knight for the remainder of the term year. It was a busy meeting with many issues discussed and presented by various members. The up coming Run For Life program spagetti Dinner Monday evening in the parish center will commence at 6pm. Volunteers are still needed, sign up with Al Connizzo. Also, please congratulate Tony and Anna Cane on their selection of Family of the Month for February!
Bishop Dewane Enjoys Council Breakfast! Diocese of Venice Bishop Frank Dewane attended our family breakfast this past Sunday after saying mass and administering the sacrament of confirmation at the 9 am Mass. Past Grand Knight Al Connizzo along With Deputy Grand Knight Jim Vanderhorst greeted Bishop Dewane and Father Tom on their arrival at the Parish Center. Bishop Dewane was very interested to hear that our Council was The State of Florida Council of the Year! There were many parishoners attending, this was a very successful event for the council and many thanks to those who worked the event, it wouldnt be possible without those Knights in Action!!
